Welcome to a whole new world. A world that operates differently than the world we've known and thought we understood. A world where bad things happen and we're better off for it. A world where good things happen but they scare the hell out of us.

WHAT WORLD IS THIS? Welcome to Earth. And to the year 2012.

THE JOURNEY SO FAR:

Somehow you have found this site. It might be through a search, a friend or through a social network. Or it might be because you've heard something intriguing about 2012 on the radio. No matter. You're here, that's what counts. Over the following pages, we will explore several points-of-view about 2012, what our indigenous cultures are telling us, what the media is saying and what each of us can do to ensure the best possible outcome for everyone.

Unlike our previous website, we've chopped up the information into bite-sized bits of information. That way it won't be so overwhelming.

Our goal is to inform, create curiosity and send you off with a clearer understanding than you came with. If you leave with less fear and a better sense of your role, we've done our job.

SO, LET'S START WITH THE MOST BASIC THING: WHY 2012?

For the last century, the secrets of the Mayan civilization have become known to scholars. With that knowledge, has come the ability to read and understand the Mayan hieroglyphic writing style. What has been discovered is that the ancient Maya were amazingly accurate astronomers and mathematicians who developed an intimate understanding of nature and the nature of time and the cycles that time influence.

The Maya had short calendars to track gestation and weather patterns and longer calendars to track seasonal patterns and rituals. But it was their long count calendar covering over 26,500 years that has captured the imagination of mystics and philosophers.

That calendar cycle ends on December 21, 2012. And presumably starts up again (if not, it's the only known calendar to come to an end).
